How Can my Major Make the World a Better Place

Imagen
I don't know exactly what do you mean by major, but if it is my career, I think sociology can contribute in two ways.  I used to think that by studying social phenomena, sociology can find a way to do things better, so people would be better and everything would be better. I mean, that's supposed to be the purpose of knowledge. See what we are doing wrong so we can find a way to do it better, that how it can contribute. And there is the second way it appears.  Sociology can identify whats wrong or what are the lacks of the people, so we can take care about it. It can say what it is happening, why it is happening and show it. So I hope it is true, because, even when I took this path mostly because I like to learn, I think that maybe I could help and by studying the reality of people it can changes the daily reality, I think that basic thing as green areas or I dont know,  daily things can do a huge difference, so maybe there would be my thing I dont know yet. A wrong analisis o

Academic dreams and hopes

I've always wanted to study out of Chile and come back, to see if I can help my people and made outof Chile a better country, silly me. But I didn't  think nothing very specific. Maybe a postgraduate degree in social psychology or urban sociology or rural sociology, jajaja I really don't know yet. With a lot of luck, not distance learning or nothing virtual.  If I had the chance I would love to do it in Germany, but if I can't I wanna do it anyways wherever the life take me or in Chile, but do it.   I don't know if it is because of the quarantine, but my expectations are very low, so all I wanna do right  now is finish sociology.  Anyways, there was a time when I wanted to do an exchange to wherever I can, because all I wanted to do was travel and learned so I could come back and work to make things better.  The more I learn all I hope is that my knowledge really helps to do changes. But whatever, long story  short, I wanna go out, learn and come back.

Who I admire?

Stephen King is an American writer that write mostly horror books. I love his work because the way he writes it's not boring or superficial, you can follow the story with the necessary amount of details so it’s not slow. I start reading his books when I was 10 years old and they terrified me, their books caught me and when the things went scary it forces me to close the book, specially "The shining". I would love to have all the books I've read of him, but they are really expensive, so I only own 2. My favorite is Joyland.  Many films are based on his books and I can tell that are not as scary as the books, like “It” or, like I said before, The shining and the sequel Doctor Sleep. There are many examples like Misery, Carrie, The green mile, etc. Currently he is 73 years old and still publishing, a few years ago he published a book with his son Owen.

My favorite photo

I took this photo of my pet susi on this summer vacation. We were at Pichidangui’s beach and that day we let Susi run free on the beach because it was empty. She loves to chase seagulls, and that was she doing when she fell into a hole full of water. Since she was all wet and we didn’t want her to get sick, we bought her a pilucho in the craft fair. And there she is, wearing a pilucho in my mom’s arms. I love this photo because it captures the childish spirit of Susi, an old dog. Also, she looks so cute and adorable. Susi loves her pilucho and be treated like a baby, and I love that, and I love her and all the photos where she appears. She’s like a sunshine in my life, even when she is all wet for chasing seagulls.

My Favorite Piece of Technology

Imagen
I don't think I really have a favorite piece of technology, but maybe it's the kitchen, I mean those things that are on top of the oven where you put the pan and pots, maybe the oven too, but I prefer those things. Because I love food and cooking, so if those didn’t exist it would be very difficult to cook. We’d be like Lisa Simpson and live on salads. I am a vegetarian, and I love to eat some vegetables cooked, sauteed, in soups, even in the oven. I usually cook sauteed zucchini. I can’t imagine the life without the kitchen, maybe it would be in bonfires or eat everything raw. I don’t have a kitchen bought by myself, but my parents have one since I have memory, so I really don’t know if we didn’t have it at some point. I use it at least 3 days in a week, because my mom cooks for me.

Post 2 - Why did you choose this career/study programme?

I remember when I was a child, I told my mom that I wanted to open a Chilean food restaurant in France, because I believed that Chilean food was underrated and I wanted the world to know how good it was. Then I grew up and I wanted to be teacher of teachers, because I love studying and I believed that if I taught to teach, other people would love to study too.  I still love studying and with that in mind, I found sociology, I discovered that is a career that allows me to permanently study people and social phenomena, that allows me to understand the things of society that make me angry or make me feel disappointed about things I used to believe.  My other options were anthropology and history, but sociology is more exciting.  I think I took the right decision; I'm having a good experience in the Universidad de Chile and I love what I choose.  As I said, I love to study and I would like to be paid for that, but if I can't, I would be teacher of some branch of sociology.

Hi, my name is Loreto Chandía, I was born in Puente Alto the 23 rd  of January 2002, but I’m currently living in Malloco. I studied in a school of a catholic foundation until high school when I entered in an emblematic school. Now I’m studying sociology at Universidad de Chile, and I love it. I’m a member of a family of four. I live with my parents and my little brother. We have four wild cats named Zeus, Bastet, Polima, like the singer and Puma, because she is the wildest. Also, we have an old dog named Susi that nobody really knows how old she is, but with us she has years. In my family everyone is tall, except for me, so I like to make jokes about it. Polima, Bastet Zeus, Puma My family support me a lot with all my projects, for example I turned my hobbies into a little business selling clothes made by myself and little stuffs that I love to knit.
